Mariana Glusman, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL
Dr. Glusman was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and lived in Mexico City until she was eleven, when she moved with her family to Boston.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Brown University, and Medical school at the University of Chicago.
She finished her residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital in 1996. Since then, she has been a primary care pediatrician at the Children’s Memorial Hospital Uptown Clinic, an academic community health center.
She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University and is committed to teaching residents and medical students. One of her main focus areas is literacy promotion in pediatrics.
She is the Medical Director of Reach Out and Read (ROR) Illinois www.reachoutandread.org. She is also the Chairperson of the Leyendo Juntos (Reading Together) National Advisory Committee for Reach Out and Read, working to improve ROR’s impact in the Latino community.
Dr. Glusman is also interested in health literacy. From 2006-9 she was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Advisory Committee on Health Literacy (HL). She is also a member of the Executive Committee for the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Her other areas of interest include health disparities in Latino families, monolingual and bilingual language development and improving links between pediatricians and schools.
She lives in Chicago with her husband and three children (two are teen-agers and one just pretends she is!)
