About Us

It has been our privilege to communicate with teens from around the world; to hear some of their stories, to learn about their dreams, wishes, sources of joy, frustrations and fears.  This site is dedicated to the many teens who are willing to share in print some of what they think and feel.  In the hope of fostering communication among families, and among continents, with their permission, we share their words with you.

Several years ago a small group of teens in Chicago, Illinois took on a big project. A local branch of Mental Health America was invited to plan a public program addressing the mental health needs of adolescents. Since then, more students have asked to be heard, to have their opinions be included in this journal of teen voices.  I have had the opportunity to hear from students around the world.  They have stories to tell.  They all ask the same thing, just that we listen. No matter where in the world they live, they want to help people, particularly their parents, understand some of the stresses and challenges they go through growing up in the 21st Century. That's why this site has been created.

You are invited to write for “What I Wish You Knew.” Responses may be published on this site and will be considered for publication in print. However, individuals’ names will not be used without written permission. Thank you to the many teens who are willing to share what’s on your mind with parents and other adults.

To the many adults who would like to know more about what what their kids think and feel, we join you in knowing that we have much to learn.
