WhatIWishYouKnew...Teens' Advice to parents and other adults

My name is Sarah and I am currently a sophomore at Hoffman Estates High School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Just like most other kids in my high school I am involved in many extra-curricular activities. I participate in everything from flags (it’s like color guard) to forensics (speech team) and peer leaders, and I play badminton. On Sundays I help teach kindergarten at my Temple. I also like to hang out with friends, listen to music, draw, read and watch TV.

Recently I went to Washington D.C. The group I went with was there to lobby our representatives. I have never been that interested in politics before, but after I went there I saw that what we did as a group of teenagers could actually help change what they thought about certain topics. It was way more fun than I thought it actually could ever be and also it made me realize that people CAN make a difference.

I am personally also really glad to be helping be an advisor to www.whatiwishyouknew.com. To be honest, at first I didn't really see what I, as a teenager, could do (if you look at the list of other advisors there are doctors and such who have been studying these topics for probably longer than I have been alive) so I didn't really see how they would take what I have to say into consideration - but after the D.C. trip, and after meeting with the other advisors -I realize that what I have to say actually does matter. I feel really honored to be involved in this website.
