favorite quotes

What is one of your favorite quotes? Who is the author?
Why do you think it is important?

My favorite is by Eleanor Roosevelt. I loved it when she said,

“A woman is like tea: You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.”

I think it was a line in a song. My mother used to always say it when she did chores.

“Inch by inch;
Row by row,
I’m going to make
This garden grow.”

I like it because it makes me remember how determined she was about always making life better. She knew nothing happened all at once. It takes effort. And important things happen a little at a time. And things don’t always show while they’re growing. My mother was a wise woman. We didn’t have a yard or a garden, but we have a pretty terrific family. And now I think I know what she meant.

“Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”

--My mother

“If it’s not one thing, it’s my mother.”

“To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring.”

--George Santanya

“To understand the anguish of the man, see him as a boy.”

-- Mitch Albom

"If I am not for myself,
Who will be?

"If I am only for myself,
What am I?''

--Hillel
